Online Payment Rules Amended for Certain Taxpayers
On 18 February, the MIRA published Tax Ruling 2019/A-18, which makes it mandatory for certain taxpayers to make payment of Goods and Services Tax, Withholding Tax, and Business Profit Tax, via the MIRAconnect online portal or MRTGS.
The ruling makes it mandatory for taxpayers with an annual turnover of MVR 50,000,000 (fifty million rufiyaa) or more, to make GST, WHT and BPT payments via the MIRAconnect online portal or MRTGS. The ruling states that persons who are subject to the ruling will be notified by the MIRA.
The ruling takes effect from 18 February. However, the taxpayers specified in the ruling will be required to follow the stated procedure from 1 April 2019 onwards.
