Tourism Land Rent for the Next two Quarters to be Deferred

On 20 May 2020, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, during a public address, announced the government’s intention to defer land lease payments for tourist resorts for a six month period.

During his third public address regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, President Solih stated that the government would defer land lease payments for tourist resorts for the last two quarters (July to December) of 2020. The government is yet to provide the details of the procedures in implementing this measure.

This measure is part of the Economic Recovery Plan, moratorium on bank loans, and special purpose loan schemes facilitated by the Government as part of the response measures to alleviate the economic impact of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
