Certain payments to the State only accepted as E-payments

 
What has changed?

From 1 October 2020 onwards, all payments made to government offices exceeding MVR 100,000 and USD 5,000 must be paid via e-portal or similar cashless payment service. This applies to all taxes, duty, fees and other amounts paid to the government.

 
Background

  1. The circular issued by the Ministry of Finance, which instructs all government offices to only accept e-payments of amounts exceeding MVR 100,000 and USD 5,000, was issued to assist in achieving the strategic objectives under the Maldives Monetary Authority’s five year Strategic Plan.
  2. This change is made by the Ministry of Finance as part of the government’s phased approach to reduce the usage of cash and cheques for government payments.
